Home Business Ideas – How to Start Your Own Business Doing Something You Love

Who don’t want to have a job that is fun and filled with excitement? Or, who don’t want to do something that they can enjoy all day long for a living. Everyone wants to have a fun job, or even better start a home business doing something you love. It’s possible to make profit by doing something you have passion for, in fact, many people have done it.

I have a friend who loves to collect different types of perfume and she has the most unique perfume collection I have ever seen. Now, she’s not just loving looking for new addition to her collection, but she’s also busy selling it to other people. My elder sister is operating a small business selling homemade cakes and cookies from home, and that’s all started from her hobby experimenting with pastries ingredients. Those people that I know take their hobby and turn it to profit are not extra ordinary people. They were just a normal people like you and me, but the different is, they have what it takes to start and run a business.

No matter who you are, if you are willing to take some challenges and think outside the box, I believe you too could make money with your hobby. However, before you could start there are few things that you will want to confirm, and you need to think like an entrepreneur of course.

First, check whether your hobby has good market potential. If you love baking like my elder sister, your market potential is good. People love cakes and cookies. My sister is good at baking, everyone in her neighborhood loves her home made cakes and cookies. She begins with a birthday cake for her friend’s daughter, and the next thing she knows, few people from the neighborhood started to ask if she would be interested to take few more orders. She said, “Yes”, and started from there she put in some effort to expand her network. As I have said, you need to think like an entrepreneur.

Second, how would you approach your potential customers or promote your product. This part was a little easy for my sister. She gave some samples to friends and the words travel fast. Once you are convinced you have good product, you will have less thing to worry. Apart from giving sample, my sister also uses pamphlet and online classified ads to get the words out. Marketing part is very important for any business, even if you are just running a small home based business.

Third, you need to have plan for your business. Lay out your objectives and clearly define your goal. A business without a goal is as good as shooting blank. Without goal, you would easily have no motivation. When my sister started her homemade cookies business, her first goal was to have enough money for the household expenses. Equipped with a clearly planned business strategy, she worked her way out. After almost a year in business, she now has almost 300 individual customers and a constant amount of daily order from some groceries stores. Now, my sister’s earning is more than enough to pay the household expenses.

Now, are you thinking how to transform a hobby into a business? As long as you willing to go a bit further with your imagination, there is always possibility to start your own business doing something you love. Even if your home business ideas might sound a bit crazy, don’t let it back you down.

Using a Scrapbook In Your Cookie Business

If you own a cookie business, you should have scrapbooks both online and offline of your creations.

I was blown away when I attended my cousins wedding and saw all of the various things that were done with cookies. Oreo cookies were dipped in a chocolate and then in white icing, the names of the bride and the groom were on the cookies.

I’ve also seen very large cookies with designs on the front of the cookies. One store advertises a very large cookie with white icing and then in pink the words “will you marry me?” Seeing a photo of this is much more of a sales tool than just a verbal description.

I have seen cookies in the shapes of a suit jacket, in the shape of a person and even in the shape of a 3-D rose.

I have seen icings in every possible color and I’ve seen multiple shades of icing on one cookie. I’ve seen large cookies and small bite-size cookies, along with everything in between.

For a new baby, I’ve seen cookies in the shape of a bottle, and for a birthday, I’ve seen cookies in the shapes of a balloon and a heart. For a wedding, I’ve seen cookies monogrammed with the letters of the wedding couple, and I’ve seen cookies shaped as red roses and left by each place setting.

Cookies on a stick are a favorite of mine. We’ve all seen flowers in a vase, but cookies on a stick in a vase always make me smile. What could be more fun than a dozen chocolate chip cookies on a stick, in a vase?

If you sell these items, you know my words are not doing the products justice. Words alone just can not sell cookie decorations like photos in a scrapbook can. Add some journaling. Let potential customers know what the various designs pictured were used for. I believe a scrapbook of your designs will help create more sales by allowing the customer to see visually exactly what they are ordering.

Start a Cookie Business – The “Sweet Success” Business

If you love to bake and you want to make money doing something you love, you should start a cookie business.

Why? Because making cookies is an excellent way to work from home.

Benefits:

You choose your own hours and you are in charge of your own success. As well, there is so much room for variety that you will never get bored of making cookies for your business. It is a great job for anyone that enjoys being creative and has a good business sense.

What It Involves:

The cookie business can consist of making cookies in bulk and then selling them to retailers who will sell to their customers. It can also involve custom orders where you make the cookies as per the clients’ requests. You may choose to bake from home but if you are making large orders, it may be beneficial to rent a facility with larger ovens and space to make batch orders.

Before You Dive In:

Running a cookie business is about doing something you enjoy for a living but there is more to it than that. You need to remember that the point is to make money while you are doing it. Therefore, you have to put on your business hat and think about how that is going to happen. You must have a business plan and you need a marketing plan. That means deciding what you want to sell and whom you want to sell it to.

Once you know that, you can move on to doing what makes you happy and making a profit, too.
